The Framingham State University field was alive with energy on Sunday, Sept.r 13, with fans cheering, coaches strategizing, and players battling on the field.
This week, the Needham Rockets travelled to Framingham to face the Flyers.
The 8th Grade game provided fans with a high-scoring shootout to end the day at Framingham State University.
On Needham’s first play, their running back zoomed down the field and scored on a 52- yard run.
Then, Needham got the ball back with an onside kick and scored again on their second play of the game with a 36 yard touchdown run. The Needham offense looked dominating to start the game, racing out to a 24-0 lead before the Flyers could score.
However, the Flyers wouldn’t go down without a fight. Jordan Ortiz pounded the ball at the Needham defense and quarterback Jack Beverley threw a 15-yard pass to Sam Stubbs which helped lead to a 2-yard touchdown pass to Christian Maldonado. The Flyers were now down 24-8 after Sam Stubbs’ 2-point kick.
The game continued to be dominated by offense for the rest of the half.
Needham scored two more touchdowns and the Flyers led a drive that included a skilled 27-yard pass on the run by Jack Beverley to Sam Stubbs and a 1-yard touchdown run by Jordan Ortiz.
The first half ended with the Rockets up 32-16.
Both teams continued to score in the second half, though not as much. Needham scored twice more in the game and the Flyers added another touchdown of their own scored on a 15-yard run by Tramiris Anthony.
