Veterans Day Services Sunday at Cushing Chapel

The Town of Framingham will hold Veterans Day Services Sunday, Nov. 11.

There will be a short ceremony at Cushing General Hospital Memorial at 10:45 a.m. It will begin with a salute to the flag by the Framingham Police Honor Guard. Prayers will be placed by Chaplain Robert Anspach. There will be a placing of the wreath and the playing of Taps.

After the completion of this ceremony, there will be a procession to Cushing Chapel for an 11 a.m. ceremony. The Framingham Girl Scouts will lead those assembled in a patriotic song. Then Anspach will give the invocation. There will be some brief remarks by the Tonw Manager, Selectmen and elected leaders.

The main speaker will be Rear Admiral Vic Beck, vice chair of information for the U.S. Navy. He was a veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

Beck, a Sudbury resident, is a public affairs expert who has more than more than 20 years of experience working with both companies and government entities.

Beck serves part-time as the vice chief of information for the United States Navy. He is the senior officer in charge of leading the Navy Reserve Public Affairs program worldwide and oversees approximately 500 communication professionals. As vice chief of information, he also serves as the primary advisor and principal reserve liaison to the Chief of Information.

Beck has been a member of the U.S. Navy Reserve for more than 25 years. He was on active duty from 1985 to 1992, and since 1990, he has been a public affairs officer in the reserve and on active duty. He has taken part in several significant public affairs initiatives worldwide throughout his service.

Beck was recalled to active military service to serve as director of public affairs for NATO headquarters, International Security Assistance Force and U.S. Forces in Afghanistan from November 2010 to September 2011.

In Baghdad, he was the chief of media operations at headquarters Multi-National Force Iraq from August 2007 to April 2008. He also spent time in Dubai as the director of an international media engagement team for U.S. Central Command from April to August 2007.
