Senator Elizabeth Warren read the book Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons to a group of preschoolers at the South Middlesex Opportunity Council’s Head Start program Friday afternoon.
After interacting with the children and holding storytime, Massachusetts’ senior senator then met with key members of the South Middlesex Opportunity Council (SMOC) team to hear what the organization does for the community and the region. SMOC is a multi-service umbrella agency, with headquarters in Framingham on Bishop Street.

Head Start is a federal program that provides comprehensive early childhood education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to low-income children and their families.
The SMOC program on Roxanna Street serves 250 students, ranging in age from preschool to grade 5. There is also one toddler class. The daycare and afterschool program serves low income families, and has students from almost every Framingham public elementary school using its after-school and school out programming.
