There was a delay in getting Framingham results Tuesday night, as one of the memory cards for the town’s 18 precincts wouldn’t read, so that precinct’s votes had to be hand counted, said Town Clerk Valerie Mulvey.
Voting was heavy in Framingham in the morning, with lines at almost all of the town’s 18 precincts when the polls opened at 7 a.m.
Mulvey had estimated about a 50% turnout in Framingham on Monday.
Mid-afternoon she said the numbers were so high, she though the Town could reach a 60 percent turnout number, but the number of voters in the evening dropped.
While there were lines through the lunch time, there were almost no lines reported at the town’s precincts after dinner.
Framingham voters also elected a Democratic and Republican Town Committee Man and Woman on Tuesday night.
State Senator Karen Spilka easily won re-election, as she was unopposed in her senate district for Democratic State Committee Woman. She topped the Framingham ticket with the most votes overall with 9,801 votes.
Framingham State Rep. Chris Walsh, in his first run for the district’s Democratic State Committee Man position, won the seat. He received 9,747 votes in Framingham. He had no challenger in the race.
For Republican State Committee Woman in the Second Middlesex and Norfolk County race, incumbent Janet Leombruno won, defeating her challenger Patricia Vanaria 7,232 to 6,631. Leombruno was losing the race with just Framingham and Franklin yet to report but Framingham gave her the victory as she won her hometown 78 to 22 percent. Leombruno received 3290 votes. Her opponent from Hopkinton 925 votes.
For the Republican State Committee Man race incumbent Ed McGrath of Framingham lost to Holliston’s Martin Lamb, 52 to 48 percent across the district.
McGrath won Framingham 74 to 26% but it wasn’t enough across the senate district to get him re-elected. McGrath received 2,999 votes to Lamb’s 1,055 votes in Framingham.
Framingham also elected 35 Democrats to the Framingham Town Committee and 12 Republicans to the the Framingham Town Committee.
