10 Things You Can't Do Today

Don't feed geese, let the dog loose or park at Grafton High.

OK, every morning we come up with a list of things to know and do in town. But as many great features as Grafton has, you can’t do it all, at least in one day.

Today you can't:

Shoot off fireworks: It is illegal for private citizens to use, possess, or sell fireworks in Massachusetts, or to purchase them legally elsewhere and then transport them into the state. There has been some discussion of changing this, but not this year anyway. Learn more about this at .

Swim in a deep-water state pool.Because of the drowning death of a Fall River woman that may have gone unnoticed for days, the state Department of Conservation and Recreation has closed deep-water pools until further notice. Learn more about that at . But Lake Ripple is open for business and the day is perfect to make a splash! 

Park at . The construction work has temporarily changed the parking structure at the school. But you can park at the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association next door. Read more at http://patch.com/A-jHG0.

Have a bonfire. Burning season in Grafton runs from July 15 to May 1, according to the

Water your lawn during daytime hours. The reports that the Department of Environmental Protection mandates no nonessential watering during the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Feed the geese. MassWildlife warns against it. Geese (and ducks) concentrate wherever people feed them. Feeding encourages birds to stay in one place and build up flock sizes the habitat can’t support. Water quality may suffer. Feeding makes geese less wary of people. Walk your dog off leash. Grafton laws require dogs to be kept on leash. But you can let your best friend run free in a specific section of the property. Learn more at http://patch.com/A-c2m0

Wait too much longer to admire the majesty of flags placed at veterans markers at town cemeteries. They are placed at Grafton veterans' graves around Memorial Day and removed after the Fourth of July.
