
Bones unearthed last week during work at 1 Grafton Common have been identified as farm animals dating back more than 100 years.
Some of the bone fragments belonged to a small ruminant, such as a sheep or a goat, according to Dr. M.S.A. Kumar of , who examined the bones.
A skull fragment found likely belonged to a cow or ox, he said.

The discovery of the bones caused construction to be halted temporarily. The bones were brought by Grafton Police to Tufts for examination.

Apple Tree Arts is overseeing construction on the site. The building, once the home of town offices, will be renovated and much of the school floor will be used by the arts organization.Â
The building was constructed during the Civil War era in 1863.Â
