Book It to the Library for Expansion Discussions

Library trustees are hosting programs April 27 and 30.

Members of the Board of Trustees are hosting two informational sessions this week to review preliminary plans for the proposed library expansion.

The sessions will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 27 and at 10 a.m. Sunday, April 30.

The trustees will present plans for a library that will house collections and services in a setting designed to be adaptable and responsive to Grafton residents' needs and expectations for the next 20 years.

The design process began in 2005 when a building program that outlined the building features was written. Since last July the architectural firm Johnson-Roberts Assoc., guided by the building program, has been working with the library building committee to develop preliminary plans for a renovated and enlarged library that will serve Grafton for the next generation.

The new plans form the basis for Grafton Public Library’s grant application, submitted in January 2011, to the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, for a construction grant that would fund 45% of the cost of renovation and expansion.

Consideration of GPL's grant application requires a Town Meeting vote approving the preliminary plans at the May Town Meeting.
