Eagle Flies Tomorrow After Last Night in Grafton
Rare injured golden eagle gives Tufts staff a chance for interesting lessons.
The rare golden eagle that has been recuperating at Tufts Wildlife Clinic will take to the skies again tomorrow.
The bird, which can be half again as large as a bald eagle, is a rare visitor to this region. They are commonly found only in the western states, Alaska, and Canada. Sightings in New York and New England are exceedingly rare, and occur only during migrations.
The golden eagle was found in Amenia, NY, near the New York/Connecticut border, by snowmobilers in the woods in early February. The bird had sustained multiple puncture wounds on its left leg, which are believed to have been caused by an animal it was trying to capture.Â
