Festival Of Hope In Memory Of Grafton Educator This Weekend

A middle school student came up with the idea for the festival, which raises awareness of a disease that killed a beloved guidance counselor

GRAFTON, MA—When a Grafton middle-schooler was given the assignment to come up with a hypothetical community event for class, she came up with an event that is really going to take place.

Rosie Warfield's vision comes to life this weekend in the form of the first Festival for Hope in memory of Grafton school guidance counselor Julie Flynn, who passed away earlier this year from Von Hippel-Lindau Syndrome, reports the Community Advocate.

Warfield and her mom Maggie spearheaded the Festival for Hope, which takes place on Saturday, June 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m at the Grafton High School (note, the location for this changed from Grafton Common).

She was first diagnosed at 13 with the disease, and lost an eye to it. Around 10,000 in the United States are affected by the genetic condition.
