Grafton Cemetery Tour Provides Opportunity to Meet the 'Dead'

The Grafton Historical Society will present a “Living History Tour” featuring costumed guides playing the roles of some of Grafton’s most colorful dear departed.  The tour will be held Sunday, Oct. 6 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the old burying ground on Oak Street. In the event of rain, it will be held at 2 p.m. at the Unitarian Church, Central Square.

 “We are so excited to present this living history cemetery tour. Our guides will be in costume and in character,” said Linda Casey, Grafton Historical Society President.  “We invite everyone to come and see some of the most interesting individuals from Grafton’s past come alive, including the scandalous Sarah Sartell Prentice, wife of our first Congregational minister, and our own Civil War hero, Luke Drury, among numerous others.”

The performances by the guides are based on historical records.  A donation of $5 is requested.

The Grafton Historical Society Museum, at One Grafton Common, houses an extensive permanent collection representing all aspects of Grafton’s rich history from the colonial era forward. It is open to the public on Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m.  We welcome all visitors and all new members, whether your family has been here since colonial times or is new to town.
