Hike Pay of Substitute Teachers, School Chief Says
Pay increases are also discussed for substitute nurses.

The pay for substitute teachers should be increased, Superintendent of Schools Joseph Connors told School Committee members tonight.
He said the current rates for the t rank among in the low to medium range when compared to area school systems.
He suggested making the following increases for daily rates for substitutes, with the first figure representing the current pay and the second reflecting his proposals.Â

Non-certified teachers: $60 to $70
Certified teachers: $65 to $75

After 21 consecutive days: $75 to $85
After 90 days: B1 per diem, unchanged
He also suggested giving retired Grafton school system teachers a daily rate of $95. Their experience within the school system makes them especially valuable, he said.
Committee members said they needed more information before making a final decision. They requested more details on spending patterns for substitute teachers.
Connors also proposed hiking the rates paid to substitute nurses from $11.50 per hours, or $74.75 Â per day to $15 per hour, or $97.50 per day.
This issue will also be discussed further at a future meeting.
