Lots to See and Do in Your Own Backyard
These 'staycations' won't break the bank on gas expenses.

In these economically challenging times, with gas prices creeping up
each day, long vacations may no longer fit the family budget. But that
doesn't mean there aren't plenty of places to unwind within a short
drive of home.
Here are a few choices.
Purgatory Chasm, 198 Purgatory Road, Sutton.
This unique landmark features granite walls that can rise as high as
70 feet. Do some rock climbing, have a picnic, check out the
playground and enjoy the natural beauty.
Drumlin Farm, 208 South Great Road, Lincoln
Animal and nature lovers will enjoy a working farm on this Mass
Audubon property. Visit the farm animals and wildlife exhibits, ride
in a hay wagon and hike up the property's namesake drumlin.
Cocokey Water Resort, 150 Royal Plaza Drive, Fitchburg
You don't have to travel to Florida to splash in a water park. This
indoor attraction features water slides, tube rides and plenty of
water fun, all with a tropical feel.
Broad Meadow Brook Conservation Center and Wildlife Sanctuary, 414
Massasoit Road, Worcester
Nature trails and wildlife sightings in the city? This urban sanctuary
features 277 acres to explore, with hiking trails, bird blinds and a
brookside trail. Deer, owls, fisher, beaver, muskrat, raccoons,
coyote: They're all there.
EcoTarium, 222 Harrington Way, Worcester
This museum of science and nature features science-related exhibits, live animal displays, a treetop canopy walk, a train ride and seasonal events. The grounds alone are worth the trip.
