UPDATED: Multi-Car Crash Cleared on Mass Pike

UPDATED: The crash that tied up traffic Thursday afternoon was caused by a wheel that flew off a vehicle, the Telegram and Gazette reported. By 3:20 p.m., the crash was cleared but traffic was still moving slowly.

ORIGINAL STORY: A several-mile traffic backup was reported on I-90 eastbound in North Grafton, near mile-marker 100, because of a multi-vehicle crash.

All lanes were initially affected, according to scanner reports. As of 2:25 p.m., there was a 3-4 mile backup. State police reported at 2:30 p.m. that the middle lane of the pike was open and the left, right, and the breakdown lane remained closed.
