
Reverse 911 may soon be coming to town.
The town could use the system to send out automated phone messages to residents in cases of emergencies. Examples would include notification of power outages, severe weather or chemical spills.
Selectmen asked Town Administrator Timothy McInerney Tuesday, July 19 to prepare a one-year contract with Code Red, a Florida-based company that operates reverse 911 systems in all 50 states.

A one-year contract would cost $8,303.
Selectmen asked McInerney to confirm that E.L. Harvey & Sons, the town’s trash hauler, and the and South Grafton Water District would agree to share the cost.

They would then be able to use the system to alert residents of trash schedule changes and water-related information, such as boil-water orders.
Selectmen said further discussion is needed to determine whether other types of information would be relayed through the system, including notification of upcoming community events or voting reminders.
