Sobriety Checkpoints Set in July

State Police announce the newest dates.

The State Police will implement a sobriety checkpoint in Worcester County Friday, July 7, and Saturday, July 8, Colonel Marian J. McGovern, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, has announced.

The purpose is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from the road, according to information provided by the State Police. 

The checkpoint will be operated during varied hours, the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured, and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety, the statement said.

The checkpoint is supported by a grant provided by the Highway Safety Division of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.
