Teachers Dismissed Early

Committee agrees that Friday may be their last day.

Friday will be the end of school for Grafton students. And thanks to a vote by the School Committee, teachers will be dismissed that day as well.

The committee agreed Monday, June 20, to a request by Superintendent of Schools Joseph Connors to allow teachers to finish the school year at the end of the day Friday, June 24.

The teachers had been scheduled to work until Monday, June 27. Connors said that allowing them to leave Friday would be a way to thank them for their hard work and dedication.

Students will be dismissed for the school year after a half-day Friday. This vote allows teachers to be dismissed by principals at the end of the same day.

This dismissal will only be allowed if teachers have completed all necessary tasks, Connors said.

Teachers may elect to return to their classes Monday, June 27 and some probably will, he said. Others will likely return before their official start date to organize their classrooms and prepare for another school year, he said.

The first day of school is scheduled Aug. 23 for staff members. Students start Aug. 29 for grades kindergarten through six and grade 9. Pre-kindergarteners and students in grades seven and eight and 10 through 12 begin Aug. 30.
