Town Gets Good Price for Perrault Land
Cost of $837,875 is considerably less than appraisal.

It's official: After six years of negotiations, the town has purchased the Perrault property at 4 and 6 Upton St.
The purchase price of $837,875, is nearly half the amount appropriated for the purchase by Town Meeting.
In 2006, Town Meeting appropriated $1.4 million to purchase the land. The property was appraised at $1.2 million

The parcel, nearly 12 acres in size, was owned by the late Rose Perrault and is located behind the .
Specific uses for the land will be determined after the property is carefully surveyed, according to a news release from Assistant Town Manager Kevin J. Mizikar.

The demand for parking in and around the Common is in short supply, Mizikar said in the statement.
A portion of the land could also be used for parking for the library expansion project, if it is approved by voters at the October Town Meeting.
Credit was given for the successful purchase to the current board of selectmen _ Chairman Peter Adams, Vice Chairman David Ross, Brook Padgett, John Carlson, John Dowling and former selectman Chris LeMay and to members of the Perrault family for the transaction.
