Bridge Street Traffic to be Detoured to Walnut Road

A section of Bridge Street will be closed Oct. 10-14 while the Miles River bridge is under construction.

HAMILTON, MA – While work is done on the Bridge Street bridge over the Miles River, drivers should plan to use an alternate route.

The town announced on Monday that work on the bridge would be extended after workers discovered that the structure is supported by irregularly shaped boulders. The boulders will be removed in a controlled collapse of the bridge, and it will be replaced.

North of the construction, traffic from the east will be redirected to Bridge, Sagamore, and Moulton streets back to Bay Road (part of Route 1A), and to the reverse when coming from 1A.

South of the bridge, traffic will be redirected to Walnut Road in Hamilton, then Walnut Road in Wenham to Larch Road in Wenham, then to Essex Street and Miles River Road in Hamilton.

Detour and message board signs will guide drivers along the route.
