
Hamilton Fire says it is lucky no one was walking near 61 Railroad Avenue at the time of an afternoon crash Thursday.
Shortly after noon, officials received a call that a car had been driven into the building housing the at 61 Railroad Avenue.
Officials said the car, being driven by an elderly man, "slammed" into the side of the building.

"The man was backing up into a parking spot and hit the gas when he should have hit the brake," Lt. Raymond Brunet said. "His vehicle sustained heavy damage."
The man, whom officials did not indentify, refused medical treatment.

After an inspection of the building, it was deemed safe with some blemishes on the exterior of the building. The gas company was also called because the car struck the building in close proximity to the gas meter. The gas company ruled the building safe as well.
