HAMILTON-WENHAM, MA - Hamilton and Wenham motorists could be walking around with heavier wallets as gas prices decrease across the Commonwealth.
Gas prices saw a particularly sharp decline in Massachusetts this week. According to a monthly survey by AAA, residents of the Commonwealth are paying $1.87 on average for regular unleaded gasoline, an average price eight cents lower than the previous week’s rates. At this time in 2015, residents were paying 28 cents more per gallon on average.

“Last week, crude oil closed at its lowest point in 12 years,” said Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast Director of Public and Legislative Affairs in Monday’s press release. “Globally, there’s plenty of oil, and not enough demand. These factors are all major contributors to plunging prices at the pump.”
The declining price of crude oil has had its effect on the rest of the country as well. Fox 4 Now reported that Michigan has become the first state to see gas prices of under $1 per gallon. A gas station in Houghton Lake, MI was even selling regular gas for as low as 78 cents per gallon.
