Local Law Enforcement Takes the Ice Bucket Challenge

Police and public safety personnel from throughout the region got ice cold for a good cause on Sunday morning.

Members of the Wenham Police Department were among the group that took the Ice Bucket Challenge at Lynch Park in Beverly on Sunday. The Beverly Police Department hosted the event, which drew participants from Beverly Fire, the Massachusetts State Police, the DEA, the Peabody Police Department, the Essex Police Department, the Georgetown Police Department, the Salem Police Department, the Gloucester Police Department, the US Coast Guard, and the Beverly Harbormaster as well as the Beverly Police Department.

Pete Frates, who is a Beverly resident, last year started a campaign to raise money to “Strike Out ALS.” This year, the Beverly Police Department gathered officers from around the state and from all jurisdictions to once again raise awareness of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.

John Frates, a Beverly City Councilor, and Pete’s father, greatly appreciated the support for this family from law enforcement.
