Nearly One-Third of Hamilton, Parts of Wenham Without Power

A widespread power outage was affecting nearly 2,000 homes and businesses on Friday night.

Nearly 2,000 electric customers in Beverly, Hamilton and Wenham were without power on Friday night, according to National Grid.

The company said the power went out just before 10 p.m. Power was expected to be restored by 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, National Grid said.

It was not immediately clear what caused the outage, but initial reports indicated it was an equipment problem.

Some of the affected areas included the Centerville neighborhood of Beverly, most of the east side of Wenham and a large portion of Hamilton, including the downtown area.

The breakdown for outages was 979 homes and businesses without power in Hamilton, 799 out in Beverly and 146 without power in Wenham. The outages in Hamilton represented about a third of the electric customers in the town.
