Reminder: No Leaf Burning in Hamilton, Wenham

The Hamilton fire chief has received questions about burning leaves and issued a reminder.

You’re no doubt already engaged in the annual battle to reclaim your lawn from the leaves that are snowing down.

As you go about that task, however, keep in mind that burning leaves is illegal throughout the state, including in Hamilton and Wenham.

According to the Town of Hamilton blog, Hamilton Fire Chief Phil Stevens has received several questions about burning leaves this season, and he decided to issue a reminder that ”leaves cannot be burned at any time.”

The blog goes on to explain that:

Leaves do not burn as “cleanly” as the materials that may legally be burned and produce acrid smoke that causes nuisance conditions and threatens people’s health, according to the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.
