75-Year-Old South Hingham Woman Wards off Scam
The following information was provided by the Hingham Police Department. Where arrests are mentions, it does not indicate a conviction.

An elderly South Hingham woman called the police Thursday morning after someone claiming to be her's grandson's lawyer attempted what is known as a "grandparent scam" or "bail money scam."
The 75-year-old woman received three calls from the unknown man, and on the third attempt a police officer took the phone and identified himself, HPD said in an alert.
The man hung up when police answered and the caller ID was blocked.
The woman's grandchildren were too young to be away or arrested, and so she knew to notify police when the caller said he needed bail money for her grandson, HPD said.
Thursday's was the latest such scam in Hingham. Last week, a scammer asked for bail money for a fake arrest in Rhode Island.
These scams continue everywhere but the best way for all of us to protect our elderly continues to be making them aware," police said.
