Brush Fires Cleared by Hingham Officers This Week

The Hingham Fire Department responded to two brush fires Wednesday without incident. 

At 8:16 a.m., a brush fire was reported at 80 Black Rock Dr. Weymouth fire responded as well and it was cleared quickly.

Then at 2:17 p.m. a brush fire was called in at the parking lot at 62 Derby St. There was also a flaming rhododendron.

Protect your home

• Regularly clean roof and gutters.
• Inspect chimneys at least twice a year. Clean them at least once a year. Keep the dampers in good working order.
• Use 1/8-inch mesh screen beneath porches, decks, floor areas, and the home itself.
• Install a dual-sensor smoke alarm on each level of your home, especially near bedrooms; test monthly and change the batteries at least once each year.
• Teach each family member how to use a fire extinguisher (ABC type) and show them where it's kept.
