Derby Street Shoppes Partners with Local Non-Profit for Holidays

For more than 60 years, the Cardinal Cushing Centers have been helping to realize the late Cardinal's dream to create a place where children he called "exceptional" could learn, grow, thrive, and achieve their individual success.

Again this year the Derby Street Shoppes will welcome local non-profit Cardinal Cushing Centers to participate in its holiday season by offering a place for customers to buy special holiday items from students and adults at Cushing.

The Cardinal Cushing Trader will return to Derby Street Saturday, Nov. 30 to sell handmade jewelry, pottery, greeting cards and other products. The booth will be at the little house beside REI, will run until Sunday, Dec. 21, and will be open Thursdays through Saturdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"For more than 60 years, the Cardinal Cushing Centers have been helping to realize the late Cardinal’s dream to create a place where children he called 'exceptional' could learn, grow, thrive, and achieve their individual success," according to a press release.

"Individuals from school age through adult and elder years experience learning, working, social relationships, recreation, and enhanced independent living in a caring and engaging setting."

The trading center's opening is part of a wider kick-off of holiday events at Derby Street.

The shoppes will co-host a Holiday Stroll Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 5:30 p.m. with Vital Impact, an organization focused on providing support to women over 35 who are transitioning careers.

Tickets are $10, and can be purchased at http://www.vitalimpact.org/events

The goal of the stroll is to raise funds for several scholarships for women over the age of 35, "empowering them to unlock their professional potential through education," the release said.

Shoppers who purchase tickets will start the night at Burtons Grill with a champagne toast & hors d’oeuvres, then enjoy exclusive offers from Derby Street Shoppes retailers, and finally, end the night at Legal C Bar with food, refreshments and raffle prizes.

“We’re very excited for the Holiday season here at the Derby Street Shoppes,” Niamh O’Maille, Marketing Manager for the Derby Street Shoppes, said. “We not only look forward to the rush of the Holiday shopping for our retailers, but we also do our best to make the center a festive and enjoyable environment for our customers.”

Customers can also join in their favorite holiday songs with carolers on Mondays Dec. 2, 9, 16 and 23 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Horse-drawn hayrides will begin Tuesday, Dec. 3 and will continue on Dec. 10 & 17 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Mr. & Mrs. Clause will make an appearance at Derby Street Shoppes on Saturdays and Sundays, Dec. 14, 15, 21, and 22 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
