FBI Report: Violent Crime Up Slightly in Hingham

How much violent crime was reported in Hingham last year?

Hingham reported more violent crime last year than in years past, according new statistics released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

According to the report, 17 violent crimes were reported in Hingham in 2012. The number is up from seven in 2010.

The FBI's annual Uniform Crime Report includes information submitted by local law enforcement agencies. The information is compiled and released to the public in the fall of the year that follows the reported year. Violent crime, as defined by the report, includes murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault.

Boston tops the list of violent crimes in cities in Massachusetts with 5,266. The top five is rounded out by Worcester, Springfield, Brockton, and New Bedford.

Hingham reported the 139th most violent crimes among Massachusetts towns.

According to the statistics, no murders or forcible rapes were reported in Hingham in 2012. Other crimes included three robberies, 14 aggravated assaults, 89 burglaries, and 261 instances of larceny or theft.

There were 362 property crimes reported in Hingham in 2012.
