Hingham Pizza Shop Changes Name, Ownership

The Peel Pizza Company, formerly Upper Crust, located on South Street, is expected to open later this month.

While no pizza has been served out of 73 South Street in Hingham since the there have been three owners and two names. The latest tenant, Peel Pizza Company, is expected to open in two to three weeks.

The Hingham store closed when Upper Crust filed for bankruptcy. The lease and equipment were sold at auction in December for $70,000 to Al Carvelli, the owner of the Upper Crust location in Plymouth.

Carvelli, a Hingham resident, planned to reopen the Hingham shop as Upper Crust. On February 28, however, Carvelli said he sold the operation to a "finance guy" from Connecticut. Carvelli would not say who bought the restaurant that he owned, but never opened.

"I have no interest in it," Carvelli said of the Hingham pizza shop. "I'm here in Plymouth. Period."

A worker at Peel Pizza Company on Monday, said that the new owner is Matt Troy. Troy was not immediately available for comment.

Carvelli would not expand on why he sold the restaurant saying only, "I have enough to do here."

As of last week, the Hingham Health Department and Town Clerk did not have licenses or business certificates for Peel Pizza Company. Health inspections must be done within a week of a new restaurant opening.

Peel Pizza Company has an undeveloped website, www.peelpizzaco.com, and a Facebook page that was founded on March 1.
