Hingham Resident Earns Creative Activist Award
ArtCorps recently announced the 2013 Creative Activist Awards, recognizing exceptional leaders who use the arts to advance social change.

Hingham resident Anthony Trecek-King, Artistic Director of the Boston Children’s Chorus, has been selected to receive a 2013 Creative Activist Award and will be honored next week at a ceremony in Ipswich.
ArtCorps, a non-profit that trains organizations and advocates to harness art and culture for community development, will honor Trecek-King and Karla Lara, Honduran Singer and Human Rights Activist, at its annual fundraiser, Raising Spirits: A Masquerade Fiesta at The Hellenic Center in Ipswich on Oct. 24.
Trecek-King began his tenure as Artistic Director with the Boston Children's Chorus in September 2007, building its reputation as "one of the emerging forces in Boston music life," according to an ArtCorps press release.
"Anthony has established a unique music education curriculum that fosters independent thinking among young musicians. Students as young as seven develop musical skills, such as sight-reading and ear training. They also receive leadership and life-skills training, including mentoring, fundraising, running workshops and participating in community service projects."
Trecek-King was also named one of the 25 Most Stylish Bostonians of 2012.
Before joining the Boston Children's Chorus, Trecek-King was a Professor of Music at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the Artistic Director of the Nebraska Choral Arts Society, according to his personal bio.
