Long-Range School Planning, Board of Selectmen Meet

5 Things: A run-down of events and other useful information for your life in Hingham on Nov. 7, 2013.

1. The Board of Selectmen meet at 7 p.m. at Town Hall. 

The agenda includes a public hearing on tax classification, a 25 percent design review of Derby Street, an update on town forest management and a vote on liquor license renewal fees.

2. The School Committee Long Range Planning Subcommittee Meeting is at 6 p.m. in the Superintendent's Office.

Agenda items include reviewing the status of the approved projects on the FY’14 capital outlay budget, planning for the November walk-around/bus tour and discussion of potential topics or issues for the subcommittee to address during the current school year.

3. Hingham Public Library hosts Music Sprouts with the South Shore Conservatory from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Story Telling Room.

"Music Sprouts is for children ages three to five and their caregivers. Students build a strong foundation of basic music skills in this fun, interactive class. Through movement, singing, playing instruments and listening, students develop their sense of tonality and rhythm, and learn to focus and interact in a classroom setting.

"Please call the Hingham Public Library at 781-741-1405 x2614 to register for this FREE one-time class, held at the Hingham Library. Siblings are welcome to attend. We look forward to making music with you!"

Colorado became the first state to let women vote with the passage of a referendum on this day in 1893. Then in 1916 on this day, Republican Jeannette Rankin of Montana became the first woman elected to Congress. In 1944, FDR won his 4th term, defeating Thomas Dewey in the presidential contest. After failing to secure the California governship, on this day in 1962, Richard Nixon said the infamous, "You won't have Nixon to kick around anymore."
