Man With Previous Rape Conviction Arrested In Hingham

The man, Edmund LaChance, was separately wanted for questioning in connection with an incident involving a jogger Tuesday evening.

HINGHAM, MA — A 53-year-old man who failed to register as a sex offender despite previous rape and kidnapping convictions was arrested in Hingham Thursday, according to Massachusetts State Police.

The man, Edmund LaChance, was separately wanted for questioning in connection with an incident Tuesday evening when "a suspicious man driving in Humarock reportedly pulled alongside a 17-year-old jogger and offered her a ride," police said.

They added: "When the jogger declined and continued on her route, the driver followed her until she ran away and called 911."

Police found LaChance in Hingham and arrested him for failure to register.

He was taken to Hingham District Court, where he was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday.
