Police Log: Gas Odor Clears Rite Aid, Copper Wire Stolen From Yard

Monday, Jan. 6, 2014
A caller from Tedeschi's on Whiting Street told police Monday afternoon that one of their employees' vehicles had been backed into on Sunday. They had surveillance of the crash, involving an older light blue van that left, but no license plate number.
At 4:43 p.m., a caller at 22 Charles St. told police that copper wire had been stolen from their yard – an ongoing issue – and that they had a license plate number for police.
Rite Aid on Lincoln St. was temporarily evacuated at 5:30 p.m. Monday after a smell of natural gas was detected near the front of the store by a manager who called police. National Grid investigated and the smell cleared, allowing people back in. Police said in an incident report that it may have been a sewer gas issue.
A stove fire was reported at Linden Ponds at 6:18 p.m. Security called in the report, and tenants were evacuated. The building was ventilated and the stove returned to normal functioning.

A single car got in an accident at 3:51 a.m. at the intersection of Barnes Road and Summer Street.
A caller at 129 Fort Hill St. reported to police that two dogs were barking for 30 minutes at 4:30 a.m. The medium-sized spaniels came to the door of the caller, and they held the animals until the owner could be located.
A driver hit a deer in front of Hingham District Court at 7:30 p.m. The deer lived and ran off into the woods.
