WWII Hero Gets Traffic Island in Hingham in His Honor
Sergeant Boris Demko was killed in action during World War II.

Sergeant Boris Demko, a 1943 graduate of Hingham High School who was killed in action during World War II, will have a traffic island in Hingham named after him.
Gov. Deval Patrick signed legislation Oct. 1 that creates the honorary island at the intersection of Route 3A and Beal Street, according to the state legislature website. Representatives Garrett J. Bradley, D-Hingham, James M. Murphy, D-Weymouth, and James M. Cantwell, D-Marshfield, sponsored the bill.
Demko was an Air Force sergeant when he was killed during World War II.
"The Massachusetts Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain suitable markers bearing that designation in compliance with the standards of the department," according to the legislation.
