Council on Aging Headed in New Direction

New chairperson is turning to the web as baby boobers reach retirement.

As millions of baby boomers reach retirement age, Holliston's and Council on Aging prepare for a challenge posed by sheer numbers.

Claire Redmond was elected to lead the Council on Aging in June of this year, and has since adapted the organization to fit the changing role of Holliston's 55-and-older population.

She has worked with the Senior Center in implementing evening activities aimed at aged residents who work during the day.

"People aren't retiring right at 65 like they used to, they are working longer and they are more active and engaged," Redmond said.

Since Redmond took control of the organization, she has changed its structure, encouraging a division of responsibilities between its members to accommidate an inevitable influx of numbers from the aging of baby-boomers.

"We are making a transition to lay the ground work for when boomers are 55 plus," Redmond said.

The Council recently developed a website for those looking for information on what the Council and the Senior Center offer.

"We are trying to move into the digital age, but we still want to respect everyone," Redmond said.
