Hopkinton Cancels Evening Activities

Mosquito borne illnesses such as EEE and West Nile are to blame.

After three confirmed human cases of Eastern Equine Encephalitis in Massachusetts, Hopkinton is hoping to help protect residents.

In a press release from the Department of Health, town officials announced the cancelation of all evening activities until the first hard frost.

The release said all events starting less than half an hour before sunset and less than half an hour after sunrise will be canceled.

Officials from the schools and other town departments are working to reschedule any activities that will need to be moved around.

One case of EEE lead to the death of a Middlesex County resident. The state Department of Public Health has indicated that the individual was likely infected in Westborough near the Hopkinton border.
