POLL: Are You Shopping on the Massachusetts Tax Free Weekend?

When people refer to the state of  "Taxachusetts" they often refer to the 6.5 percent sales tax, the income taxes and the property taxes. One thing many out-of-staters may not know about is that the governor and other legislators have signed off on a tax-free weekend for the past several years.

While the weekend isn't all encompassing, anyone who shops in Massachusetts can save the 6.5 percent sales tax on all of their purchases as long as no single item costs more than $2,500.

In Hopkinton, is hopping on board with the savings from the state by offering members an additional 20 percent off their purchases. They're also allowing customers to shop ahead and tag the items they want to purchase so they can call and pay for them on Saturday to avoid the crowds.

But not all shoppers will want to fight the crowds for the 6.5 percent tax savings, many businesses offer steeper discounts on a regular basis.
