Team Hoyt Sculpture Coming to Downtown Hopkinton

The Boston Marathon and the story of Rick and Dick Hoyt have gone together since the first time the Hoyts ran the historic race 30 years ago.

Now the John Hancock insurance company and the Town of Hopkinton are honoring the racing duo with a sculpture that will be placed just feet from the Boston Marathon starting line.

The sculpture was funded by John Hancock and is being given to the town as a gift. It will be placed on a short granite pedastal in front of the Center School.

“This is a big, big win if you accept the gift for the community,” Tim Kilduff who has been heavily involved with the Boston Marathon said. “It expands our marathon footprint and brings us even closer to the Hoyts.”

The Hoyts' story is told annually all over town and it has inspired many local runners to train for the long-distance race.

“If you can’t be inspired by their story, than you can’t be inspired,” Selectman Todd Cestari said. “What better place to put this than in front of a school where it will be seen every day.”

While specifics still need to be worked out, the sculpture is expected to be installed before the race comes to town again in April.
