Within two weeks of deciding to , the has agreed to an 11-month contract to hire him as interim superintendent. According to a press release from the schools, the contract is worth $142,083 with benefits and begins on August first. "The Committee is looking forward to having Dr. Hiersche join the leadership team. Having a veteran Superintendent with both mentoring and management experience will positively affect this year's priority mandates and initiatives, which will improve learning for all students in Hopkinton," Chairman of the School Committee Nancy Burdick said. Hiersche will be filling the gap after , allowing the School Committee to take a longer look at candidates for the permanent position with the intention of having a superintendent picked out to begin on July 1, 2013. Administrators at the school say they are working to arrange opportunities for staff members and the community to meet with Hiersche before school starts on September 5.
