September 11 Remembered in Hopkinton

Bell ringing has become a tradition at the Hopkinton Public Library.

If you were near downtown Hopkinton this morning you might have heard ringing bells at 8:46 and again at 9:03.

Jack Paltisch rang the bell atop steeple a total of 78 times to remember all of those who were killed on the planes that crashed into the World Trade Center.

"There were nine crew members and 81 passengers on the first flight, 90 people total," Palitsch said. "I ring the bell 45 times for that flight and 33 and a half times for the 67 people on the second flight."

Paltisch has been ringing the bell for ten years now, he said the library has been doing it since the first anniversary of the attacks.

"We thought it was the proper thing to do as trustees to recognize the unfortunate events of that day," Paltisch said.
