Sharon Timlin 5K Draws out Community of Runners for ALS

Nearly 2,000 people participated in the Sharon Timlin Memorial 5K for ALS in Hopkinton Saturday.

A large and supportive local crowd turned out on Saturday for the Sharon Timlin Memorial 5K for ALS, raising an estimated $50,000 for research and treatment of the disease.

The crowd included former U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, who walked the event, and U.S. Senate candidate Gabriel Gomez, who ran the 3.1-mile race.

The event, now in its 10th year, honors Sharon Timlin, mother of Mike Timlin, the retired relief pitcher for the Boston Red Sox. Mike Timlin attended, signing autographs after the run, along with Tim Wakefield, another former Red Sox player.
