Updated: Woman Airlifted After Being Pinned Under Tree

Helicopters transported a woman on Turner Road who had suffered "serious injuries" on Thursday.

A elderly woman suffered traumatic injuries on Turner Road after being pinned under a tree around 2 p.m. on Thursday and received transport from a helicopter, police said.

According to Fire Chief Michael Cassidy, the woman appeared to have been attempting to cut the tree with an axe when it fell. A neighbor overheard the woman calling for help while walking home from the bus stop.

"The Fire Department initially dispatched the Rescue and Engine 1 to the scene, however crews were able to free her from underneath the tree, which was approximately ten inches in diameter, without the use of any additional tools or equipment," a release from Chief Cassidy said.
