Boston Police: Arrest In Murder Of Salem State University Student

Boston police said Wilvin Guity shot and killed "innocent bystanders" Christopher Joyce and Clayborn Blair in Jamaica Plain.

BOSTON, MA — Boston police on Saturday announced an arrest in the murder of a Salem State University student and a 58-year-old man in Jamaica Plain last week. Wilvin Guity, 28, of Dorchester, shot and killed the student, Christopher Joyce, 23, and Clayborn Blair, both of Boston, police said. Joyce and Blair were "innocent bystanders" in the gang-related shooting, police said.

"While I’m certain our city is a safer place with Wilvin Guity behind bars, I’m still angered when I think about the senseless gun violence that took the lives of Christopher Joyce and Clayborn Blair," Boston police Commissioner William Evans said in a statement. "Community members all across our city should be able to gather and socialize in public places in the company of neighbors and friends without the fear created and caused by those who carry illegal guns in our city. Chris and Clayborn did absolutely nothing wrong and most certainly deserved better fates. And, while there are no words to lessen the pain or sense of loss being felt by the family and friends of Chris and Clayborn, it is my humble hope that word of today’s arrest will provide for them some small measure of comfort and closure.”

Joyce was two weeks away from graduating and reportedly celebrating the milestone with his family at the time of the shooting. He was studying to be an accountant.
