Former Boston Police Officer Fatally Shot in Haiti

A retired Boston Police Department detective was fatally shot by a group of bikers in Haiti on Wednesday afternoon.

Yves Dambreville, 65, was shot and killed in the country’s city of Port-au-Prince, InfoHaiti reports.

The former head of the National Police of Haiti, Jean Nesly Lucien, was also shot twice. Lucien survived the attack and is now hospitalized.

Dambreville, a Vietnam War veteran, lived in Boston for over 30 years while serving on the Boston police force. He also served a close advisor to former Boston Mayor Raymond Flynn from 1984-1993.

For more than decade, Dambreville had traveled between Boston and Haiti as a teacher at the National Police of Haiti for the United Nations.

“Detective Dambreville was a hardworking, dedicated and well respected member of the department.” said Boston Police Commissioner William Evans. “I was saddened to hear of his passing and send my thoughts and prayers to the entire Dambreville family.”
