Health Officials Seek Jamaica Plain Man Who Captured Rabid Bat

The bat tested positive for rabies on Tuesday, officials said.

The Boston Public Health Commission is searching for a man from the city’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood who touched a rabid bat.

Officials say the man came into contact with animal after capturing it around 6 p.m. on Monday. The individual later turned it over to health officials.

The bat was taken taken to a laboratory for testing Tuesday. Results came back positive for rabies.

Officials say the man needs to undergo “preventative treatment against rabies” and should contact the commission or his doctor immediately.
