Jamaica Plain Resident Indicted for Assaulting 72-Year-Old Woman
Tajanetta Downing is charged with shoving Yuzhen Lei to the ground. Lei banged her head off the sidewalk and later died.

A Jamaica Plain resident was appeared in Boston Municipal Court Friday and was indicted on charges that she violently shoved a 72-year-old woman to the ground in Chinatown back in July.
Tajanetta Downing, 24, was indicted for assault and battery on an elder with serious bodily injury, prosecutors announced.

The victim, Yuzhen Lei, banged her head off the sidewalk, causing serious injuries to the head area.
Investigators believe Dowing and Lei had some “fleeting physical contact” after which Downing allegedly acted out in a hostile manner, the Suffolk County DA’s office said.

Lei died one day after the incident at Tufts Medical Center.
Downing initially fled the scene, but was later tracked down by Boston Police, investigators said.
Downing’s bail was reduced from $75,000 to $10,000. She will be arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court on Oct. 9.
