JP Church Rings Bell 900 Times For 900,000 Lives Lost To COVID-19
First Church in Jamaica Plain followed Washington National Cathedral's lead by ringing their bell for an hour and a half over the weekend.

JAMAICA PLAIN, MA — A church in Jamaica Plain commemorated a grim milestone over the weekend.
As the country has passed 900,000 recorded COVID-19 related deaths, congregants of First Church in Jamaica Plain - a Unitarian Universalist church, rang the church bell 900 times in memory of those lost.
The vigil took place Sunday, Feb. 13, from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., almost two years to the date when the first COVID-19 case hit Massachusetts.

Onlookers came and went, remembering those lost over the past two years as the bells rang for over an hour and a half.
First Church expects to ring its bells again once the national COVID-19 death toll reaches 1 million, WCVB reported.
