For those who don't know me, I'm a resident of JP for over 10 years and the co-producer of the Jamaica Plain Music Fest. I live a block away from this building and I am friends with almost every person that lives there. The money will be withdrawn and given directly to the residents of this building to help with all of their expenses. They lost all of (their possessions) in an instant, having to leave without even a change of clothes. They have a long road of rebuilding ahead of them but hopefully this will help them get started.
The fire started around 5 p.m. on New Year's Eve, escalating into three alarms and scorching the six-apartment home. Boston Fire initially estimated the damage at about $700,000.
