Longtime Boston City Councilor Yancey Beaten in Preliminary Election
Incumbent City Council member Charles Yancey placed second in the District 4 voting behind newcomer Andrea Campbell.

The results are in from Boston’s City Council Preliminary Elections in Districts 4 and 7.
Incumbent City Council member Charles Yancey, who has held office since 1983, placed second in the voting on Tuesday behind newcomer Andrea Campbell.
Campbell received 1,982 votes as opposed to Yancey’s 1,159 votes. Terrance Williams received 217 votes, according to the City’s Elections Department.

Campbell and Yancey will now go head-to-head for the seat come election day in November.
Voting District 4 includes a section of Jamaica Plain, which is Yancey’s home turf. 3,422 total votes were cast in District 4 race.

In the District 7 preliminary election, incumbent Tito Jackson won by a landslide. Jackson tallied 1,408 votes. The next closest candidate was Charles Clemons, with 381 votes. 2,121 total votes were cast in District 7.
Boston’s General Election will be held on Nov. 3.
