Jamaica Plain has its share of high profile marathon runners, but do any have a higher profile than a member of the New Kids on the Block?

Joey McIntyer, who grew up in JP, is running in this year’s Boston Marathon to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of his mother who suffers from the disease.

McIntyre has raised $27,580 as of Thursday, which exceeds his goal of 26,200 by five percent.

“My mother suffers from Alzheimer's disease. She loved to walk everywhere. Never had a driver's license- so I'll run for her instead in the Boston Marathon,” says the story section of his Boston Marathon Crowdrise fundraising a page.

McIntyre is also giving away five pairs of tickets to The Package Tour, which will feature New Kids on the Block, Boyz II Men and 98 Degrees. Also, he’s giving away 10 signed tour T-shirts and 10 copies of NKOTB’s new album “10”.
