Police are on the lookout for a Cambridge man they say fled from a stolen car, leaving his possible friends behind to be arrested by the Arlington Police Department.

Among the pair of arrested passengers - Hope Sioux Anne Noveska, 20, of Jamaica Plain

The authorities say Nathan L. Brito, 21, of Cambridge, was spotted speeding on Mystic Street at approximately 2 a.m. Wednesday, nearby the Medford town line, with two passengers in the back of the car.

At one point, the car was swerving from one side of the road to the other, according to Arlington Police.

Once a pursuing squad car turned on its sirens, the vehicle pulled over at a Medford Street traffic stop. As the officer approached, the car abruptly sped back up. The officer drew his gun, and ordered that the vehicle remain still.

Then the driver - allegedly Brito - opened the door and ran away.

Due to fidgety behavior the officer said he observed from the passengers while walking to the car, he opted to arrest them - John Richard Morgan, 19, of Cambridge, and Noveska, rather than chase the driver.

It was then that the officer noticed the vehicle’s steering column had been smashed, leaving several wires exposed, which indicated a hot-wiring.

The car’s owner had yet to report it stolen, simply because she hadn’t noticed it missing yet, according to police.

Noveska and Morgan have both been charged with receiving a stolen vehicle. The charges against Brito include failing to stop for an officer, speeding, and receiving a stolen vehicle.
